What's Next On My List? My Week With Marylin

Dear readers, I have recently watched a great movie and have to share it with you immediately!

My Week With Marylin

This is the true story of a young English boy, Colin Clark, who through persistence got into the shooting of the movie The Prince And The Showgirl. Here, he met Marylin Monroe and being the third assistant director he was assigned to take care of her. He falls in love, and his heart is broken when Marylin goes back home to her husband instead of choosing him.

Why should we care?
This is probably one of the best movies I have ever seen.
Of course, we all know that this isn't Marylin Monroe, but while watching, Williams completely transports you and you forget that these are all actors. All throughout the movie you just want to hug her! It rips your heart out to see her like this. And we all know what insecurities she had in her life. And with Marylin becoming a whole industry on her own, my generation doesn't really know her. This movie is a great portrayal into her life - she's not just pictures that end up on bags.
This movie is wonderful for the following reasons: direction wise, 10/10. Casting? Again, 10/10. Best thing in it? This is based on a book, a diary more precisely, which means that we cannot see anything that happened without Colin present. The director and screenwriter made sure even if it was just a scene between Olivier and Vivien Leigh in the viewing room, they showed him sitting next the camera, in the other room. Another example would be when he spent the night at Marylin's, he woke up to her singing in the tub. Now, being asleep, of course he didn't see her get out of bed and fill the tub. The movie pays attention to all of these details and the story makes perfect sense without showing the things that might have happened where Colin wasn't present.

Kenneth Branagh has been known for remaking a lot of Laurence Olivier movies, and well, he was a great choice to portray him. Everyone in this movie is exceptional. The scenery, the music, the colors. Truly all come together and I applaud them. The only problem is that it came out the same year as The Iron Lady (click here for my review!); you see, Meryl Streep deserved that Oscar, but so did Michelle Williams. It's a shame they were up against each other!
Please, if you get a chance, make sure you check this one out! It is a must see!

That said, we'll get back to our main course soon, but I am going to the cinema today to see Silver Linings Playbook, so hopefully I will write about that, and then plenty more! Stay tuned.
